How to Use
We are working hard on this site and it is in it’s early days. Many listings may not have additional information such Cost and Domestic Range.
Items have been divided into categories of use. This means some manufacturers may be listed more than once depending on the product ranges offered.
Listings are divided between retailers and manufacturers. We wish to feature and support the makers, but understand that many items are primarily available through retailers and that the retailers can also provide a convenient range of brands and types of products.
Disclaimer
There is no implication of completeness in the listings or thoroughness of the research. Errors may be present, and changes in the maker’s claims or the regulations guiding those claims, from the time of writing may make the information invalid. The information is provided without warranty or fitness for purpose.
Makers and products listed as ‘American’ may or may not comply with current FTC rules for “Made in U.S.A.” or marks construable to mean the same. The rules for country of origin and marking are much more complicated than one might think. We wish to support domestic production and are aware that materials or components may come from abroad. Inclusion on our site does not supersede actual information from the makers or retailers about the products’ origins and compliance.
Even companies whose are products made domestically may be owned by foreign companies. It is extremely difficult to determine the ownership of most companies. It can also change rapidly or quietly. We are more concerned about the careers, expertise, quality and independence of domestically produced goods and recognize that ownership may not be in the country of production.
Cost
With the exception of retailer listings, the listings may feature a cost rating for the product(s) compared to the current market for the same goods and based solely on the subjective experience of the authors.
$ : Economical, appropriate for the mass market.
$$ : Mid-Market, competitive with branded and quality goods.
$$$ : Premium, higher-priced goods that usually have features or materials that justify the investment.
Don’t Ask : Not for price-sensitive shoppers. This site doesn’t usually list brands from this category because it deviates from our purpose.
Domestic Range
Many makers offer both domestically produced and imported products. Based on the subjective experience of the authors browsing the site and the statements made there, icons are given to categorize the maker. Please check before buying products whether they satisfy your requirements for domestic production. Makers’ claims may or may not comply with “Made in U.S.A.” rules, see Disclaimer.
Where multiple products categories or types are offered the icons may be tailored to that specific product category. The link provided under that category may or may not go to product listing pages that follow our listing and product categories. For example: Company A might make all their knives and some of their other kitchen utensils in the U.S.A. but also imports some of their kitchen utensils. Because knives are listed separately, the * icon is shown next to the knives. The other kitchen utensils use the

* icon. Depending on the website, the link provided for both the knives and other utensils may just land on a ‘kitchen’ page.
Customers should be careful and check the products listings and where unclear ask the manufacturer before purchase.
